Overheated, but now out of the free plastic poncho we were handed as our tickets were scanned for Opera Australia’s open air performance of ‘Carmen’ on Sydney Harbour tonight.
Rain buckets down as we sit huddled in winter woollens, enclosed in plastic ‘humidicribs’ wondering if the Opera will be cancelled. The storm passes, and the stunning, purpose-built floating stage, anchored into the harbour floor, comes alive with singing and fireworks as Carmen appears.
Regrettably, more rain, fogged spectacles, wet bums and soggy shoes make the decision easier to call it a night at the Intermission.
What a shame!
