I came away from Gerhard’s mountain cottage with more than the memory of handpicked salad greens and plump veal chops on the BBQ last night.
On the drive back to Sydney this morning I sensed something wet on my shoulder. Jason took a look and told me to close my shirt and keep driving. And unbeknown to me, the leech kept sucking . . . my blood! Arriving home, a dose of salt on his tail and he let go leaving me with a wound that continued to trickle blood for an hour or so. A second bandaid and another wipe of betadine did the trick.

Gerhard’s garden has gone gangbusters since the rains but he also has taken on ducks to decorate his dam. He talks to them – they follow him, and he puts them to bed at night where they stay there till he comes and lets them out in the morning. (Then he has the cows over the fence who come and say hello to him before his puts his coffee on).
This little video shows the horny old drake taking his morning bath in the dam. Open in full screen to enjoy the detail.
Thanks for the beautiful shots and music Min.Off to the UK for christmas and New Year in Paris, hopefully a white one too!!
