Here is a guy who’s working six days a week and is as sharp as a tack. When I thought I was assisting him with an on-line practice session for his Citizenship test, he got 100% of the questions correct. I scored 80%. When he sat the course, he finished in eleven minutes of the forty-five allowed. So surprised was the examination supervisor, Rabeh was given his Citizenship confirmation advice in one week, instead of the customary three- month period of waiting.
At the end of the Ceremony, all the new citizens and their guests sang the Australian National Anthem ‘Advance Australia Fair’. and Then the jazz trio played two more famous Australian songs while everybody enjoyed a cup of coffee and a legendary Lamington, sponge cake with chocolate icing and coconut, some Anzac rolled oats biscuits, and a Pavlova meringue and cream…
The iconic Aussie song called “I am Australian” (also known as We are Australian) which was written in 1987 by Bruce Woodley of The Seekers and Dobe Newton of The Bushwackers was well received. It’s a very patriotic song – commonly taught in primary schools and was even one of the songs under consideration to replace our National Anthem!
And of course, there’s no need to mention the iconic Waltzing Matilda.
