The fresh waters of the Connecticut River are warming, and the lady at the local fish shop rang Donald this morning saying the first shad of the season had been caught at 6.30 am today. How’s that for timing?
Hard to believe my last visit was recorded in Donald’s Visitors Book dated eleven years ago. Pity he’s recently discarded hand-written records prior to 2005 of what he served his guests, so there’s no knowing for sure what else might have been on the menu on that last visit – probably a home-baked apple pie, and I definitely recall the sorrel soup because as Edward was cutting the sorrel in the herb garden, I was collecting firewood in the forest, and a tick in my testicle at the same time!
