The Queensland slogan of “Beautiful One Day, Perfect the next” didn’t quite apply to this last weekend when I flew to the Gold Coast for a pre-Christmas family get together. It rained continuously!
However, rain was never a reason not to enjoy myself. We went to the trawlers to see what the fishermen had brought in from the sea overnight – sweet, fleshy Moreton Bay Bugs and Prawns. What a feast, and that was only part of it.
My sister Annie then went to town in the kitchen to cater for family coming by for pre-Christmas drinks. You’ll see how she cures her fillet of beef with thyme, and then serves it on savoury scones with home-made onion marmalade.
Rain and high seas are doing damage to the beaches. Erosion is taking the dunes, and it will take a year of winds to build them up again. The beach scene is still beautiful even in this inclement weather.
