News of the death of Libyan dictator Gaddafi has stopped my morning. I visited Libya twice in the past four years and now look forward to returning again. Tragically, Jamal, the owner of the travel company, who personally drove me to Leptis Magna on my second visit, was killed by a stray bullet in Green Square in the opening days of the revolution.

Wow Michael what interesting stories you have. Im intrigued!
Dear Michael, you are great great great!!
Michael,
Great news for the world that we are rid of Gaddafi but sad that your guide was caught up in the fighting. I’m sure there are many thousands of innocent people who have lost their lives in this pursuit of freedom.
As for your story, I still have vivid memories of the first time I read it and it whetted our appetites to do a similar trek sometime. We’ll have to wait now for things to settle down under the new regime. My favourite photo is the one of you and the Touareg (?) guide in his wonderful blue robe., I hope this wasn’t Jamal.
