Overheated, but now out of the free plastic poncho we were handed as our tickets were scanned for Opera Australia’s open air performance of ‘Carmen’ on Sydney Harbour tonight.

rizzle adds a dimension to the wonderful Sydney skyline, with office buildings alight and a view stretching around to the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge as we share bottle of chilled Semillon and a Ploughman’s platter before the opera commences. What is a sailing boat doing out there in the rain at this hour of the night?

Rain buckets down as we sit huddled in winter woollens, enclosed in plastic ‘humidicribs’ wondering if the Opera will be cancelled. The storm passes, and the stunning, purpose-built floating stage, anchored into the harbour floor, comes alive with singing and fireworks as Carmen appears.
