a.m. on a Sunday morning and I bound out of bed.7
The sun is shining!
Without showering, I dress in layers and head out into the blue, cold and brisk, but nonetheless the sun is shining today. Heading into Hyde Park at the top of my street, I’m alone except for the birds singing.
There’s a few more people about as I walk back across the park from Mass in Farm Street, including members of the Royal Horseguard returning from their morning exercises.

While walking along, I start to wonder about the moments of introspection and quietude I hope to find in the daily walks with family and friends along my “Camino de Miguel” in the north of Spain at the end of the month. For those of you who are interested, here is the itinerary we’ll be following.

Way in the distance, across a wide expanse of bright green grass, I see a pink wave moving slowly. I catch up and soon learn that thousands of people were up much earlier than I, and for a more noble motivation. They have been on a Moonwalk for `Breast Cancer’, since midnight!
I enjoy attending Mass at the Jesuit Church in Farm Street, Mayfair while I am visiting London. It’s a good four-kilometre round trip from Eddy’s and in addition to a good sermon and excellent music, it affords an opportunity to get some exercise and take in changes in the surroundings.
Eddy and I head off back across the park for a late lunch at my favourite Turkish Restaurant, Sofra, in Shepherd’s Market. We stop and watch the students from countries far and wide at the nearby Imperial College, who are playing soccer in the park, and move on to the gardens where a display of flowers in the colours of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee are in profusion.
The Mezze and a couple of glasses of Turkish Rose do me in, and I’m afraid that the return home is by taxi.
