An early morning visit to the trawlers on the Broadwater at Southport on Queensland’s Gold Coast is a ‘must’ for me every time I come up to visit the family.
To my regret, it’s ‘recovery season’ for the Spanner Crab and the local fishermen don’t start checking their crab pots for another couple of weeks.
I’m far from disappointed though with last night’s catch of the delicate, sweet-tasting Moreton Bay Bugs and Eastern King Prawns. I find the white bug flesh to be more delicate than lobster, and definitely softer and sweeter. Today’s catch was also so juicy with just the right amount of salt from the sea remaining.
