Thanks be to God . . . for parting the clouds for the sun to shine and the teal waters to glisten in the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile’s Patagonia. I’d also like to think that God played a hand in putting the blue colour in the icebergs that had broken away from the glacier and now floating in Lake Grey.
From grey, to green, to blue . . just amazing!
And . .. after we’d had our fill . . . the weather closed in again! We certainly had our fill of the Cuernos (Horns) del Paine, a magnificent range of mountains that continued to play hide and seek with clouds and rain all day. At the end of the day, expecting our luck to hold out for the legendary Torres del Paine pillars of rock, the clouds closed in, winds blew, but the perfume from rampant wild begonia dulled the disappointment as we watched and waited . . . in vain.
Whilst witnessing the powers of invocation to our Lady with a simple Hail Mary for blue skies, Karen Greenberg is now considering a novena for the next time the sky is grey. On the other hand, my ‘devout’ travelling companion, Edmundo, can’t fathom my concern at missing an iconic photographic opportunity. “Just rake a photo of the picture you like in the guide book. Who would know?”
