Jordan Highlights
In Petra . . . walking back along the kilometre long great natural cleft in the rock known as the Siq and threading our way along cliff walls with inscriptions carved in ancient languages and chambers carved into the sandstone, the most famous monument, the Treasury, makes a dramatic appearance . . . . columns, statues, cornices . . . as if fresh from the chisel, without the tints of weather stains of age, and executed in a stone of pale rose colour, which was warmed at the moment we came in sight of them with the full light of the morning sun.”

Dear Michael,
As you say, how things have changed in Syria since your wonderful trip there four years ago!
In 1971 I attended the Shah’s magnificent celebrations in Persepolis to commemorate the founding of the Persian Empire and cannot believe what has happened in Iran since then.
Ken and Pam had lunch with us on Good Friday and they talked about your trip to Spain. I look very forward to reading all about it when you return.
Patrick joins me in sending best wishes, as ever,
Helen
